Coach
Carroll embodies the principles that Swim Torrance strives to
imprint on all of our swimmers as an individual of impeccable
character and integrity. He brings with him 10 years of
coaching experience on two coasts and 5 years of Head Coach
experience in Southern California. Coach
Carroll is a ASCA Certified Level IV coach and has
developed and nurtured swimmers at all levels from the youngest at
age 6, to Masters, to Age Group Seniors at
the Olympic Trials level. He was a Division I
Varsity Swimmer at the University of Pennsylvania where
he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Anthropology. He
holds a Master of Education Degree from Drexel University,
and is a Doctoral Candidate in Urban Education at
UCLA.

Julie L Thorson

Coach Julie Wood
(Thorson) graduated from Fairfield University in Connecticut
in 2000, and holds a BS degree in both Information Systems and
Marketing. Julie was a 4 year Varsity Swimmer while at Fairfield
and she currently holds school records in both
the 100 Meter Backstroke (1/99) and 100 Yard Backstroke
(2/99) and went to ECACs in her Junior year. Julie received
her Masters in Education from Pepperdine University in July 2003
and is currently a Technology teacher at South Torrance
High School. Previous to coaching with Swim Torrance she was the
coach at South High for 7 years. She has also coached with the El
Segundo Masters Swim Club, Notre Dame Academy, and Islip
Aquatics. Julie currently is a Level 2 coach with the
American Swim Coaches Association.

Tyler Storie

Coach Tyler Storie began swimming with the Corvallis Aquatic
Team (CAT) in Oregon, where he qualified for, and was elected team
captain of, the 2002 USA Swimming National Junior Team. During his
time at University of Southern California, he studied Kinesiology
and was a four year member of the Men’s Varsity Swim Team. He
was named “Most Spirited” his Junior year, and
“Team Captain” his Senior year. Tyler is a three time
Olympic Trials qualifier in 1500m freestyle (200, 2004, 2008) and
the current Chair of the Athletes Executive Committee for USA
Swimming. Tyler continues to train for a variety of endurance
sports including Open Water Swimming , Marathons and Triathlons.
His sister Malia swam for Oregon State University, Brother Logan
currently swims for the University of Florida, Sister Sloan
currently swims for West Virginia University.

Ranier Roque

Coach Ranier Roque
is a native South Bay swimmer from Carson High School. He was a 50,
200, and 500 free swimmer and set many records there. Besides
swimming at Carson High, Coach Ranier ran cross country and played
tennis. Before coaching Swim Torrance, he worked at the Torrance
plunge as a lifeguard and water instructor for 5 years. One of
Coach Ranier’s passions is to drive his Mini Cooper and
race it on the track. He is currently tring to get sponsored by an
Italian team for auto crossing/canyon running. Right now Coach
Ranier is going to Cerritos College taking up the dental program so
he can transfer to a university and become a dentist.

Christine A Kruse

Coach Christine Kruse graduated from Loyola
Marymount University in 2005 with a BA in Political
Science. Christine was a Varsity swimmer through
high school where she competed in the 100 backstroke and the 200
freestyle. Christine went on to swim her first
year of college before retiring and becoming a
coach. She has coached for the El Segundo Sea
Turtles, El Segundo Masters Team, and spent 6 years with South
Torrance High School. Currently Christine
teaches Social Studies at South Torrance High
School. Christine
currently is a Level 1 coach with the American Swim Coaches
Association.

Diane Gallas
Substitute Coach

Coach Diane has
been with Swim Torrance as a coach since 2007. Diane graduted from
UCLA with a degree in History. While in college Diane competed for
the Varsity Women's team in the 500 free, 100 & 200 back. Diane
helped her team at Pac 10s and NCAAs. In her years of swimming,
Diane has swam under Mark Schubert, Bill Rose, and Cindy Gallagher.
Diane has been a coach with the El Segundo Sea Turtles, Beverly
Hills High School, Santa Monica Masters Swim Club, and the El
Segundo Masters Club.
